3 Words Shape My 2019 Story, while winnowing my focus

3 Words Shape My 2019 Story, while winnowing my focus Each stroke of the new-year drum gains clarity, beat by beat.  I look forward with hope and three words to shape my 2019 story:1 of 3 Words: FAITH  Faith is the foundation. Without daily nurturing and cultivating of faith, the other two words will wither. At best, they grow, but in the wrong direction and/or stunted in their full-bloom capacity. Its like planting tomatoes but not taking the time and care to root them in the right soil, to feed them and protect them from the potential insects, weather or harmful outside forces that will slow or stop their healthy progress.Several resources are go-tos for nurturing, growing and protecting my faith: my print version, KJV Biblea book in which I write and apply post-it notes; my  First5.org app;  my  church;  my faithful sisters in Christ; and, my husband, whose biblical insights are unflagging.2 of 3 Words: UNFETTERI strive to unfetter from worry;  from obligations that dont matter; from tasks that bog down; from persistently negative pe ople; from doom and gloom news; and, from unnecessary or self-imposed heaviness. Hmm, there seems to be a theme here. Its invigorating how an unfettered mind and heart are free to soak up rays of hope that are sent to us like lifelines, when times are tough. Its also incredible the progress we make and the strength we parlay when unfettered from the minutiae, oftentimes self imposed by some warped sense of obligation or prudence. To help me unfetter,  I tap into various songs, podcasts and an exercise routine (walks to the lake with my dog, Roger, or spins on the elliptical). Unfettered time with my husband to laugh, luxuriate in a warm meal, watch a silly movie or DIY home improvement show or simply enjoy a Sunday drive around our little lake community, all serve to unfetter my mind and soul.3 of 3 Words: DEEPENAs in, dive deeper into key relationships; root out those no longer beneficial. Delve more richly into business and writing projects previously neglected, including client va lue-add services and ideas that lie dormant and dusty on my virtual shelves, averted when my attentions get sucked into insignificant tasks. Weeding out the insignificant will make room for the deep-dive into those waylaid initiatives and relationships. To dive deeper,  I invested in a new, leather-bound vintage writing journal in which to hand-write lists and check off progress, etc. For the past several years, employing a new-year journal has been integral in ramping up goals. Theres something about writing things out in long-hand that reinforces objectives. As well, I have a stack of logod business notecards that I began tapping into for hand-written client communications, and my goal is to increase the momentum on this initiative.  The Intention of Deep-DivingI think going deeper requires intention, the disciplined practice of small steps (hat tip, Joe Jacobi), as well as embracing fluidity by being nimble and self-forgiving. Life will happen, even with all the unfettering and pla nning but I mustnt let this derail from overall goals. Its time to whittle away at unnecessary dealings and winnow down to core priorities more than ever when life throws curve balls. Maintaining a continual spirit of hope with a dollop of tenacity will keep the the three words for 2019 healthy, vibrant and growing! To read my prior years three words,  visit my posts between 2013 and 2018, here, here, here, here, here or here.   Chris Brogan started the #threewords initiative in 2006. How to Use a Resume Writing Service in Pasadena

How to Use a Resume Writing Service in PasadenaHiring a professional resume writing service in Pasadena can help you not only build your resume, but will also help you to make your first impression as excellent as possible. What is good about hiring a resume writing service, is that they are familiar with the latest techniques and are able to use them to make you look better than you would normally be able to. Here are some tips on how to go about hiring a resume writing service in Pasadena. The first thing to consider when looking for resume services in Pasadena is to get as many samples as you can have different types of resumes that are available. Most of the reputable companies will provide you with these samples, so that you can see for yourself just how good they look. You will be able to tell if they are good by what you see, so it is best to get samples in front of you and compare them side by side.Second, you should be clear about the types of resumes that you want to have wr itten. You should never hire a resume writer who has never written a resume before, because then you can never know if he or she knows what he or she is doing or not. It is also best to hire a resume writer who specializes in the type of resume that you want.A good idea is to get at least three sample resumes. Each of these samples should be different from the other, so that you can see what the different styles of resumes look like. You will know which ones you like the best once you get them in front of you and compare them. The third step is to make sure that the writers actually get the job done for you. In most cases, the more resumes you have on hand, the easier it will be to find a writer who will do a good job. You may want to have more than one writer, because this will ensure that each will get a chance to write a good resume for you.Getting samples is a good idea, because it shows you exactly what it looks like. The last thing you want is to hire a resume writer who will c ome up with a bad resume for you. The good news is that if you use a reputable resume writing service, the chances are good that they will get you the perfect resume for you. Finally, you want to make sure that the writers you hire are experienced. If you are a rookie trying to get your first job out of college, it might be best to hire a writer who has experience doing resumes for people who have worked their way up the corporate ladder. This is because the success stories that you get out of these writers will give you an idea of what it will take to get your career off the ground. Plus, experience is the best teacher, so you will have plenty of examples that you can use.Hiring a resume writing service in Pasadena can be the most important thing you do in your career. Not only will you have the chance to impress your prospective employer with a quality resume, but you will also be making an excellent first impression to someone you want to impress. So make sure you take your time t o find a good one in Pasadena and start making your own first impression with a solid resume.

Who Are You You Recruiters Know Nothing!

Who Are You You Recruiters Know Nothing! As a recruiter you have so much to think about:   advertising jobs, sourcing candidates, competing not just with you traditional competitors, but with your clients and candidates â€" everything’s online now and everyone has access to what you have access to.   How do you differentiate yourself?   How can you make yourself stand out?   Heads are hurting all over the recruitment sector right now. Anyone who reads my blogs knows that I get very frustrated with the #job #job #job culture that social media has exposed for some recruiters out there.   I am on a mission to get them to drop the #job in favour of the demonstration of specialism #cloud #hr #mining #finance #publicsector. I know that the average recruiter does not have a time machine, and that it often feels like a big ask to get them to talk online rather than simply bleat on about jobs, so I wanted to write something to help. If you’re a recruiter, I bet you read about your specialism and even if you are classed as a generic sector recruiter, you’ll be reading up on recruitment, and if you don’t then read my mind… So, you may take a couple of minutes a day to read around your sector (recruitment and/or mining/hr/it/etc…) so why are you not sharing this with your audience?   Sharing content on your sector can: Demonstrate your specialism Help your client / candidate base with knowledge they didn’t have Improve your profile and make you stand out Give your ideal clients confidence that you are in their space… …all good stuff! I’m more likely to buy from someone who gets me! Someone said the other day that updating your status too often (and thus only doing it a couple of times a week) means that people stop listening… I do not buy that!   I agree if you’re just telling me what you had for tea last night then the hide button in LinkedIn updates gets a good seeing to.   If however you are talking about me, my sector, what I could be doing to find a new role, how my sector is coping with change, I start to associate you with good stuff!   How can that be bad? I always ask my recruitment clients to aim for updating once a day â€" this helps with getting them to engage with their audience, actually login to social media to do some vital listening and ultimately have   a presence in a really busy room. Some tips to help you share more of the good stuff You can have some cute buttons on your toolbar/bookmark bar to help you share stuff â€" even if there are no sharing buttons on the website where you are reading the content. Use the links below to drag sharing buttons to your toolbars which will help you share anything on the web via your social media profiles: LinkedIn Facebook Pinterest Twitter Google  (a bit of a mare to find on the page… look for the Share Bookmarklet heading toward the bottom) AddThis  â€" you just need 1 button on your toolbar and you select which site you want to post to Bullhorn Reach  also has a great tool for social sharing (and it does jobs and tells you when people are “on the move”), that’s definitely worth checking out. To be fair, there are loads of bookmarklets online that you can grab and add to your toolbar, so choose what works for you… …and then the ultimate challenge: saying “bookmarklet” 5 times in a row after a double GT on a Friday night after a busy week recruiting and sharing content online! How To Nurse Your Holiday Hangover

How To Nurse Your Holiday Hangover Tis the season for over-indulgence. As we gear up for this jolly time of the year, it goes without saying, most will be sipping on spiked eggnog, champagne, among other festive cocktails. In the moment, this may seem like harmless fun, but in excess can take a toll on your body, and some will be left with the holiday hangover blues. Dr. Christopher Calapai    suggests the following natural remedies for getting rid of that  pesky morning aftermath hangover: Drink water and other liquids too! Drink a good amount of water before [going out] â€" at least 6 to 8 glasses, with a little lemon or orange, which are acidic and balance your pH. If in the case this does not happen, rehydrate and flush the impurities from your system with electrolyte filled drinks. I.e. sports drinks, coconut water, or bouillon soup for salt and potassium restoration the morning after. Use Ginger Ginger  is packed with  vitamins and minerals making it a great  remedy for settling an upset stomach. Add honey, as it contains fructose, which will help the body metabolize and burn off any alcohol still in your system. Alka-Seltzer Get a different type of bubbly in your system!  Alka-seltzer  varieties contain sodium bicarbonate (also known as baking soda), which can  help  settle an uneasy tummy by neutralizing stomach acid. Go Bananas for Bananas A lot of potassium is drained from your body when you drink heavenly. Bananas are bursting with potassium and will the you the giddy-up and go your body may be needing! Exercise   Even when you don’t feel like it, it can help to  stimulate the release of endorphins, resulting in a better mood and a better state of mind as you recover from your hangover. Multivitamins Taking a vitamin supplement before drinking and one the next morning with food.   Its a great way of rejuvenating the vitamins lost due to drinking, as alcohol is a natural diuretic. Eat a big meal before We all know how it is to get caught up in the celebrations and fun.   But it can be a game changer if you can remember to do this. A large meal will coat your stomach lining, helping to better absorb alcohol. Essentials of Effective Resume Writing

Essentials of Effective Resume WritingWhen it comes to the best ways to get hired, the most overlooked essentials of effective resume writing are all about formatting. The skill of formatting a resume is not something that you can just throw together in a day. The best resumes are the ones that the person that's trying to get a job really wants to have, but without the professional tools and approach that's needed to do it right. Before I got involved with resume writing and some of the best tips for formatting a job seeker's resume, I was doing everything by myself. I took a course that allowed me to learn the basics of creating a resume by an expert, but it also taught me how to be self-sufficient so that I could build my own resume from scratch. I now realize that there is no real substitute for someone who knows exactly what they're doing, but if you can at least take some steps to make sure that your resume is formatted properly, then you'll be able to skip some things that you m ight otherwise have missed. One important aspect of format is making sure that your font size is consistent. The last thing that a potential employer is going to see is your resume and will be put off by the sloppy appearance of the font. You'll want to ensure that the spacing between the paragraphs is even. If the space is too small, the reader might get confused about where the work of a paragraph ends and the resume starts. If your resume doesn't read well, it's an important part to think about how to fix it. There are many different ways that you can go about this. You could always hire a computer programmer to help you out, or you could look for a software program that can help you. Whatever you decide, it's important to understand that fixing your resume will require some time and effort. One of the more important parts of formatting a resume is the header. This is where you will list all of your accomplishments, or what it is that you have accomplished that made you a desirable candidate for the job. It should also include your contact information, like a phone number and email address. The next area that is a must in a resume is to give your name and a brief description of the position that you're applying for, as well as the department or company that you work for. Make sure that you do not leave out any information. There are many different guidelines and tips for making a good resume, but one of the most important is to not be careless. One of the most important element of formatting a resume is the first sentence. Your first sentence needs to spell out your qualifications, and it should also introduce yourself. This is the first thing that people will notice about your resume, so it needs to be something that is unique. You can use the services of a resume writer, or you can hire a computer programmer or writer to do the job for you.The best thing that I learned about formatting a resume when I first started was that it takes a lot of time and effort to make sure that your resume is professionally looking. It's nice to know that there are some good ways to make sure that you're going to impress everyone who reads your resume. That way, you'll have a better chance of getting that interview and getting that job.

5 ways to manage employees along their career path

?5 ways to manage employees along their career path Performance reviews are one thing, but they generally only look back. Supervisors can benefit too by looking forward and giving employees guidance and feedback on the future of their careers. There are many reasons for managers to talk to workers about their future. From nurturing their growth and development to increasing engagement, boosting productivity, and potentially, saving time and money on employee turnover, the benefits of having career path discussions are numerous. So why aren’t more managers doing it? According to a survey by Robert Half Finance Accounting, 40 percent of 1,200 professionals polled said their supervisors never discussed their career paths with them â€" but the same research revealed a whopping 93 percent are hungry for this type of information. In light of this data, bosses who are not discussing career progression with their workers are missing out on an important opportunity to engage and retain team members. After all, staff who don’t know when they will earn a promotion or raise or don’t understand how they fit into a company’s long-term strategy aren’t likely to stick around for long. The following tips can help you, as a manager, conduct productive pro-active career path discussions with your employees. 1. Meet regularly As a supervisor, you should be discussing career progression regularly with your staff â€" not just during traditional annual performance reviews. Why? For starters, they want you to. Of the 1,200 U.S. accounting and finance professionals polled by Robert Half, 45 percent revealed that they would like to speak with their manager about their career path once a year, while an additional 48 percent said they’d be open to receiving this feedback more frequently: Quarterly (37 percent), monthly (9 percent) and even weekly (2 percent). 2. Ask about their objectives If you don’t know where members of your team want to take their careers, you can’t help them get there. When you do meet with them during performance reviews to discuss their professional aspirations, it’s important to know what types of guiding questions to ask. For example: What do you feel are your key skills and strengths at work? What are your short- and long-term career goals? What projects or tasks have you done that you’re very proud of? Tell me about a time you felt really good at work â€" what did you do or accomplish that day? What do you need from me to support you through this process? 3. Recommend â€" and provide â€" learning and training opportunities Once you’ve determined your employee’s desired career path, consider what knowledge and skills they may need to reach their professional goals. Are there any certifications they could earn, technologies they could learn, or skills they could enhance? Think about what your company can do to help them obtain these in a way that also benefits the business. For example, are there skills in short supply that your firm could use? Would the employee be able to share new knowledge with other staff once their training is complete? 4. Encourage and facilitate networking and mentoring As a manager, you may be able to connect members of your team with key players within your company (and, particularly, people beyond your own department) who can provide valuable career guidance and industry insight. There may even be someone in the organization who could serve as a mentor to your employee, sharing practical knowledge and hands-on guidance and insight that could help an up-and-coming professional better understand the organizational politics they’ll need to navigate to achieve their goals. 5. Don’t try to be a career counselor Realize that, as a manager, you can only do so much to help members of your team realize their full potential at your firm; they are, ultimately, responsible for their own careers. But by showing them what steps they’ll need to take to reach important milestones along their desired path, you can enhance their chances of success â€" and build loyalty along the way. Most employees will only care about your business when they are certain that you care about them. One of the best ways to demonstrate this is to show that just as you have high hopes for your company’s future, you also have hopes for your employees’ futures with your company.

10 tips to help introverts successfully network -

10 tips to help introverts successfully network - Job-search and career coaches always tout networkings importance. They implore clients to break away from their computers to engage in old-fashioned interactions to link with people who may be able to help them. Its not so easy to master the art of juggling a plate and drink in one hand while gracefully delivering an on-target elevator pitch. For introverted job-seekers who prefer one-on-one meetings or small group interactions, the idea of needing to work a room to meet an influential new contact may seem overwhelming. But succeeding at in-person networking is not out of reach. Follow these 10 steps to ease awkwardness and emerge with terrific contacts: 1. Become a sleuth. Before attending in-person events, find out who else plans to attend. 2. Research several targets. Its not stalking; many make a habit of Googling people they expect to meet before an in-person encounter. 3. Search for recent press. Have their organizations been in the news? What about the contacts themselves? 4. Make a list of several conversation starters. If its uncomfortable meeting new people, advance research and planning will come in very handy at the moment a great contact extends a handshake. 5. Practice. Theres a reason practice makes perfect. If conversing with strangers is uncomfortable, spend some time role-playing with friends, a pet, or in front of a mirror. 6. Dont ask for help. It may seem counter-intuitive, but you should avoid asking for help when meeting people for the first time. 7. Be a good listener. Ask plenty of questions. Most enjoy talking about themselves. 8. Request a meeting. Its so much easier to have a professional conversation in a quiet, one-on-one setting where people are not hovering around, waiting to talk to your contact. 9. Seek the best ways to reconnect. Ask about the best time to reach your new friends and contacts. Avoid frustration: Use the preferred methods, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. 10. Follow up. Its a shame to research and plan to meet new people, have engaging conversations, and leave without contact information and plans to get in touch.
